Cover Letter

Your cover letter is the very first thing an employer will see. In today’s job market, your cover letter may actually be more important than your resume! Most companies receive dozens of resumes for each job opening. A “To Whom It May Concern” type of form letter just won’t cut it anymore.
Task 1:
Find a job posting you are interested in. Write a cover letter to apply to the position. Focus on the skills, attitudes and experience requested in the job posting. Use the cover letter checklist to write a clear and convincing letter.
Task 2:
Ask two of your peers to edit it for you and sign at the bottom.

Volunteer as little or as much time as you like.  We require many conference volunteers who are willing to donate a small portion of their time to assist with the smooth running of our very large conference.  You will need to register and pay the conference fee if you would like to participate in the education sessions or networking events.  You do not have to miss any session time to volunteer!

Prepare Conference Registration Materials (before the conference) – October 13, 14, 15
Collate attendee name badges, registration kits and delegate bags.
Registration Desk Volunteer (at the conference) - October 16, 17, 18
Welcome attendees to the conference, distribute name badges and registration materials.

Resume Writing:

In order to be prepared for the work force, you need to have a well written resume. Here is one of the good websites that provides a lot of useful language that we can use.
Here are another two samples of a chronological resume sample and a functional resume sample. Use these just as guidance to help you frame your masterpiece.

Task 1: 
Start creating your resume in light of all what we have learned in class.

Task 2: 
Ask two or more of your peers of edit it for mistakes.

What are Power Statements?

When presenting your skills to others, use concise statements that briefly describe the value you can bring to the organization. Highlight a strength you have, and show how you have used that strength to achieve results. This kind of statement is referred to as a Power Statement.
Task 1:
List 10 or more of your achievements/ accomplishments in your personal life and on your professional level.
Task 2:
Pick out what is relevant from the above list, and write five to six sentences as your power statement that you will use on your job interviews or resume.
