To write a good cover letter, you need to practice how to customize cover letters for different job ads. Below are three different jobs from two different websites.

Task 1:
Create a customized cover letter for each of the following three ads.

Task 2:
Ask two of your classmates to edit your work, and then publish for teacher's feedback.

Your cover letter is your first representation of yourself in front of any employer, so let's make a good impression!

Task 1:

Find a job ad that you would consider applying to it, copy the ad, and paste it on your blog.

Task 2:

Now write a cover letter to respond to this ad. Keep in mind to include the following sections and ideas:

Each cover letter you write should be customized to include:
  • Which job you're applying for
  • How you learned about the job (and a referral if you have one)
  • Why you are qualified for the job (be specific)
  • What you have to offer the employer (match your skills to the job description)
  • Thank you for being considered for the job
  • Keep it Short

Task 3:

Ask one or two of your peers to edit it for you based on the actual job advertisement.

Scanning Job Advertisements


Good afternoon everybody,
In order for us to write a proficient resume, we need to scan job advertisements as well.
Here are three good websites that you can scan: Job Bank, Monster.ca, and Charity Village

Task 1:

Pick one/two relevant jobs for yourself from each website.

Task 2:

Try to match your resume with the target job description.

Task 3:
After “tailoring” your resume, please ask two of your peers to edit it for you, sign down their names, and post it on your blog.

P.S. if someone doesn't feel comfortable posting his/her resume on the blog, you are free to send it to me after editing; however, if not at least two people have edited it, I won’t be able to check it for you!

Please try to benefit from each others’ experience and knowledge.
