This activity is wonder for me except the dictation part. Personally I think it's rather low efficiency dictating done by classmates themselves because of wrong or inaccurate pronunciation and accent.
This kind of activity not only practices our speaking and listening skills, but also can let us to learn how to use different ways to express the same meaning. So it is very useful.
